This is episode 19 and today I’m here with Debbie Reber talking about neurodiversity.
Debbie is a parenting activist, New York Times bestselling author, and the founder of TiLT Parenting, a website, top podcast, and online community for parents who are raising differently wired children. Her most recent book, Differently Wired: Raising an Exceptional Child in a Conventional World, came out in June 2018. She currently lives with her son and husband in the Netherlands.
Adventure of the Week
I share our big September adventure yurt camping on the Oregon coast with a big group of unschooling families.
Neurodiversity: How we know if our family belongs in this club.
Acceptance: We go over how acceptance, or lack thereof, shows up in parenting a neurodivergent kid.
Connection: We offer advice for parents on becoming fluent in the language of their child.
Mirroring/Role Modeling: We share how mirroring and role modeling has shown up in our lives and relationships with our differently wired kids.
Interventions: We talk about how embracing choice and shifting your lifestyle around your child can be the greatest intervention of all.
Labels: We discuss how labels can be helpful and how they can be unhelpful.
Others: We share how to navigate dealing with others including judgment, advocacy, and decluttering relationships.
We tackle this question from Melissa: “How do you get both parents on the same page?”
