This is episode 76 and today I’m here with Julie Bogart talking about Critical Thinking.

Guest

Julie Bogart is known for her common sense parenting and education advice. She’s the author of the beloved book, The Brave Learner, which has brought joy and freedom to countless home educators. Her new book, Raising Critical Thinkers, offers parents a lifeline in navigating the complex digital world our kids are confronting.

Julie’s also the creator of the award-winning, innovative online writing program called Brave Writer, now 22 years old, serving 191 countries. She home educated her five children who are globe-trotting adults. Today, Julie lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, and can be found sipping a cup of tea while planning her next visit to one of her lifelong-learning kids.

Highlights

Define: She defines what critical thinking is.

Importance: We discuss why critical thinking is important (what effects we are seeing of a population that does not think critically).

Roadblocks: We talk about what gets in the way, where the resistance is, and what forces work against critical thinking.

Progress: We share how we can get there, how we can overcome those roadblocks to grow ourselves into critical thinkers.

Children: We cover how we raise children who are critical thinkers.

Differentiation: We explain how if we teach our children the skills of critical thinking, they will think critically about everything, including our beliefs, views, and values. We speak to that potentially uncomfortable reality.

Technology: We offer advice for how we can help ourselves and our children interact with technology with our critical thinking caps on.

I work from an island in the Pacific Northwest, where I live wild and free in connection with my hilarious husband and three growing sailors in our fixer upper on the beach. I authentically live this healing work out loud raising my own neurodivergent family (inner child included) and draw on my decades of education and experience (I've done all the nerdy work so you don't have to) to guide a revolution of overwhelmed parents just like you to feeling at peace within yourself, consciously connected with your children, embraced by a supportive community, and enjoying a values-aligned life you love.
